Elizabeth "Betty" Rooney

MADISON- Elizabeth "Betty" Rooney, age 90, passed away on May 30, 2017, surrounded by her family in prayer and song. She was born in Highland, Wisc., on January 2, 1927, the daughter of Charles and Frances (Wagner) Imhoff. She graduated from Highland High School. Betty married Robert Rooney on May 13, 1950.

She loved word puzzles, playing cards and watching game shows and she led rosary at church and took communion to the sick.

She will be remembered as a prayerful, selfless, woman whose devotion to God has led her straight to Heaven.

She is survived by her children, James (Shelly) Rooney, Thomas (Terry) Rooney, Susan Rooney, Nancy (Peter) Rohde, Michael (Brandy) Rooney, Kate (Steven) Peiss, and Mary (Scott) Paskey; 16 grandchildren, Kevin, Eric and Scott Rooney, Erin Rooney, Charlie, Jenny, Emily Leverentz, Rebecca McNalley, Daniel and Andrew Rohde, Jeff and Jon Rooney, Mike and Dave Peiss, Joshua and Jacob Paskey; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Messersmith; and many friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and eight siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH, ST. JOSEPH CHURCH, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy, Madison with Msgr. Thomas Baxter presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Saturday.
