Welcome to the memorial page for

Helen (Theodosiadou) Adams

March 31, 1926 ~ July 9, 2017 (age 91)

MADISON-Helen Adams passed away peacefully on July 9th, surrounded by her family at Meriter Hospital.

Helen was the former Eleni Theodosiadou, born on March 31, 1926 in Limassol, Cyprus, the daughter of Christos and Aglaia (Lia) Theodosiadou.

Helen proudly served as a corporal in the British Women’s Army (the A.T.S.), from August 1942 to 1946.  Her service proved to be life altering.  During her service in Cairo, Egypt she met Chief Petty Officer Martin J. Adams. They were married on April 25th, 1946 in Egypt and moved to Madison after their discharge from their services. Helen attended many different classes at MATC. She was a former Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She also provided loving child care to many children in her home for years.

Helen was a very active member of St. James Catholic Church throughout her life until health problems somewhat slowed her activities.  She was a member of the East Side Club, St. James Altar Society, and the Catholic Foresters. Helen was a determined woman who greatly valued her independence and remained so until her last days.  She loved caring for and being with her family and friends. She always had a curiosity and zeal for life.  She had a special talent for sharing her life stories and was always active with dancing, bicycling, tending her beautiful gardens, sewing, cooking, often delicious Greek food, and acrylic painting.

Helen was preceded in death by her son, Richard Lee, her husband of 45 years, Martin, her daughter, Marion, her parents Aglaia and Christos of Cyprus, a sister Soula, brothers Andreas and Spyros also of Cyprus, sister Nickie of Toronto, Canada, and brother Pakis of London.

She is survived by her children Chris Adams (Katherine), Lia Adams Ellinide,  Brian Adams (Eileen), her loving brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Gila Theo, her brother, Panikos of London, and sister Nina of Cyprus.  She is also survived by her very special grandchildren, Christopher Adams (Kimberly), Jeremy Adams (Erica), Mathew Adams, Martin Adams, Richard Adams, Mikhalis Harper and Demitrios Harper, a very special great-grandchild, Carter Adams, and special nephews and nieces Christos Theo, Michael Jr. Theo, Peter Theo, Nickoletta Theo, Tina Theo-Helser, and many other great-nephews and nieces.

Helen had many wonderful friends with whom she enjoyed throughout her years.

St. James Church was an essential part of  her life. She especially valued her spiritual association with Msgr. Baxter and Parish Nurse, Cynthia Schoettler.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Madison police, firefighters, paramedics and staff at Meriter Hospital for their expertise, compassion and support, and a special thank you also to her attentive, caring nurse, Mary Jo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering donations to St James Catholic Church or the Second Harvest Food Bank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017, at ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1128 St. James Ct., Madison, with Msgr. Thomas Baxter presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at JOYCE-RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 5701 Odana Road, Madison.
