Madison-Bruce Swanson passed away peacefully at home on Friday March 2 nd at age 74 surrounded by his loving family. He was born On September 23 rd , 1943 in Monroe, Louisiana the son of Mary and Martin Swanson. He grew up in Roscoe, IL and attended Bradley University before moving to Madison to take part in a special graduate program at the University of Wisconsin Madison to become a high school chemistry teacher. Bruce taught at LaFollette High School for over twenty years before finishing his teaching career at Memorial High School. He helped many students succeed in school through his unique teaching style and wonderful sense of humor. Over that time, he also served as Athletic Director and a coach for many different sports
including freshman girls basketball and boys varsity tennis.
Bruce married Mary Finley on June 30, 1979 and together they had two children, Andre and J.P. The family had many good times together up at their cabin near Westfield, WI. Bruce was a devoted father and loving husband. He greatly enjoyed following Wisconsin sports teams, especially watching the Badgers play basketball, hockey and football. In his younger days, he played City League basketball and softball. In his free time, he loved to do the daily crossword
puzzles and play Sheepshead with his friends around Madison.
Bruce will be remembered by Mary, Andre and J.P as well as his brother, Nick, and his sister, Tina, and many nieces and nephews.
A Life Celebration gathering to honor his memory will be held at The Great Dane at Hilldale Mall in Madison from 1-4 on Wednesday March 14th .
