CROSS PLAINS/ WAUNAKEE - Catherine C. Uebersetzig, age 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Catherine was born on September 20, 1922 in Perry Township in Wisconsin, the sixth of eight children of Henry and Christina Gruenenfelder. Catherine lived in a cheese factory through eighth grade and then worked as a mother’s helper for Ranum bee farm and Ed Schmitz and Sons in Madison. It was while in Madison she met Roman Uebersetzig at Turner Hall and married him on October 6, 1942. This was a new life for Catherine. She had to learn the farm life, milking cows, raising chickens, managing huge vegetable and flower gardens, baking for the family and sometimes throwing bales of hay, as well as rearing her children. The Uebersetzigs lived in the town of Cross Plains, town and city of Middleton. After Roman passed away, Catherine moved to Waunakee in 2006 to be closer to family.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Roman, son Paul and six of her seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children James (Nancy) of Lodi, Rita Goucher Dodge of Waunakee, Irene Meinholz (James) of Middleton, Ken (Deb) of Mt. Horeb and sister Hedy (Maurice) Wahl of Blanchardville, 19 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren (and counting).
A Latin Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at ST. THERESE CHAPEL, 6039 Baltes Road, north of Middleton off Hwy 12, Waunakee, with Father Dwyer officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:30pm until time of Rosary at 7:30pm on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Joyce-Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road, Madison and again from 9am until time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Burial at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Cross Plains.
