Verona-Charles Richard “Dick” Healy, age 90, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison. He was born in Dubuque, Iowa on June 22, 1926, the son of Charles and Margaret (O’Harran) Healy. Dick graduated from East High School in Madison in 1944. He joined the US Navy served during WWII from 1944 to 1946. He served on the USS Gosper (APA) in the South Pacific in the Marshall Islands, Guam and Hawaii. After the war, Dick joined the Madison Fire Department where he worked from 1950 to 1960. He later started his own home repair and landscaping business. Dick was married to Sally Matts Healy on May 28, 1971 at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Middleton. He was an active member at Memorial Baptist Church in Verona. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf with his son and grandsons. Dick was a Packer and Badger fan. He liked traveling to Badger football games (home and away) with his wife. Dick loved traveling, and enjoyed several cruises to different parts of the world.
Dick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sally Matts Healy; children, Casey (Pat) Healy and Scott Ager; grandchildren, Ryan Healy, Eric Healy and Rachel Healy; great-grandchildren, Cohen, Cora, Bella, Mia, McKenna and Journey; siblings, Margaret Gilbert and Thomas Healy; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Healy; and sister, Jeanne Marie Nolan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Friday, June 9, 2017 at MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH, 201 South Main St, Verona, with Rev. Jeremy Scott presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Verona Cemetery.
