Madison – Donald V. “Donny” Rauls, age 89, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Nazareth Health and Rehab Center in Stoughton. He was born on October 29, 1928 in Dane, WI, the son of Anton and Regina (Kalschuer) Rauls. Donny served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany during this time. He married Donna Statz in Dubuque, Iowa on August 8, 1960. Donny was known for his tremendous work ethic. He worked for MG&E as the Foreman of Gas Production for over 40 years. Donny passed down a passion for the outdoors and athletics to his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took a yearly hunting trip out west to Montana and also took a yearly fishing trip to Canada with his eldest son for over 20 years. The Rauls family took a yearly camping trip, “Christmas in July”. Donny enjoyed playing baseball and softball. After his playing days were over, he continued to be involved in athletics, umpiring baseball games. He liked playing cards, especially cribbage, sheepshead, euchre and solo.
Donny was proud of his family. He and Donna were especially proud of raising 5 boys, his hunting and fishing partners. He had a special affection for all his grandchildren, and enjoyed watching their athletic events. Donny was the “Best Grandpa Ever”. “We’ll never forget his stories and his legacy will live on through his sons and grandchildren”.
Donny is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna; his 5 sons, Douglas (Heidi), Terry, Joseph (Linda), Danny (Marcie) and Tony; his 9 grandchildren, Curtis, Meghan, Alicia, Haley, Scott, Allyson, Nicole, Jacob and Tyler; his sister, Janice Walter and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Regina Rauls; and a brother, Lloyd Rauls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at ST BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2450 Atwood Ave, Madison, with Fr. Michael Radowicz presiding. A visitation will take place from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N Sherman Ave, Madison and again on Thursday from 9:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Highland Memory Gardens.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Nazareth Health and Rehab Center and Agrace Hospice for the care and support they provided Donny.
