WINDSOR – John S. Jones, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 1, 2018. John was born on March 11, 1940 in Lancaster, WI to Sheldon and Evelyn (Schultz) Jones. He grew up in Sun Prairie, graduating from Sun Prairie High in 1958. John attended the University of Wisconsin where he played the trombone in the marching band. He served in the 32nd National Guard and played in the marching band. He married Donna Pfeil on September 23, 1967 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Briggsville, WI. John worked at Oscar Mayer’s for 39+ years and 14 years at Zimbrick as a dealer/trade driver. He was a long term member of St. Peter Catholic Church, a Cub Scout troop leader, and a baseball coach. John enjoyed playing cards, golfing, collecting model trains, watching Wisconsin sports teams, going to Las Vegas with his travel buddy John, watching westerns, taking pictures, and especially hanging out with his family.
John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; children, Kevin (Sharon), Kristin (Scott) Theilig, and Dan (Julie); grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Makayla, Noah Theilig, Hadley, and Connor. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Meredith; brother-in-law, Dennie Pfeil; and nephew, Jason Pfeil.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 North Sherman Avenue, Madison, with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:30AM until time of Mass on Friday at the Church. A private burial will be held St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Briggsville at a later date.
