Marion Shirley (Reger) SchmidtJuly 5, 1936 ~ October 27, 2017 (age 81)
MADISON- Marion Shirley Schmidt, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday October 27, 2017. She was born in Highland on July 5, 1936, the daughter of George and Marie Reger. She married David Carl Schmidt on October 8, 1955. She worked in the Physics Department at the University of Wisconsin for many years.
Marion lived a vibrant life. She enjoyed camping, going on walks, being active, discussing politics, dancing, wintering in Arizona and hosting parties for family and friends. She was an original member of St. Peter Catholic Church and helped with church bazaars and funeral services. Most of all, Marion loved spending time with her family. She made each family member feel uniquely loved and valued. In return, it was not unusual to see grandchildren making special visits from near and far to enjoy her company. Marion will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Mike (Mary) Schmidt, Tim (Tara) Schmidt, Doug Schmidt, and Rebecca (Steve) Ladwig; her 9 grandchildren, Russell and Bryan Schmidt, Emily, Kathryn and Marie Schmidt, Mitchell and Austin Schmidt, and Samantha (Josh) Brown and Heather Ladwig; her siblings, Donald (Patricia) Reger, Dennis (Mary Ruth) Reger, Phillip (Lorraine) Reger, and Debbie (Louis) Epps; in-laws; Robert and Colletta Niemann, Rosemary Schlicht; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David (2007); her brother, Robert (Pat) Reger; and brother-in-law, Neil Schlicht.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Agrace HospiceCare or JDRF.
Special thanks are due to the many friends and family who supported Marion with cards, letters, flowers, companionship, and love during this difficult time.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Marion’s life will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at NOON at ST PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with Msgr. Charles Schluter presiding. Visitation will be held from 10am until the time of Mass at the church on Thursday.
