Virginia L. “Ginny” Koenig, age 92, reunited with her husband, Donald, in Heaven on September 27, 2017. She was born in Gladstone, Michigan on December 25, 1924, the daughter of Olaf E. and Anna M. Swenson. Ginny attended and graduated from Gladstone Grade School and High School and Bay DeNoc Community College in Escanaba, Michigan.
In 1943, she moved to Racine, Wisconsin, and worked as a stenographer in the Wing Division of J.I.Case Manufacturing. There she met many lifelong friends as well as her husband, Donald Joseph Koenig, and the two were married on September 10, 1949. After moving to Appleton, Wisconsin, she worked as Assistant to the Food Service Director at Lawrence University until retiring in 1980.
Ginny is survived by her children, Brian (Linda) Koenig, Alan (Kim) Koenig, and Joe (Donna) Koenig; her grandchildren, LeAnn (Gurn) Curry, Christine Koenig, Daniel Koenig, and Lauren Koenig; her great-grandchildren, Cooper and Tucker Curry; her sister, Violet Christiansen; brother, Loyal (Ellen) Swenson; and sister-in-law, Pat Swenson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 2005; her sister, Thelma (Francis) Gobert; her brothers, Nobel Swenson and brother, Richard Swenson.
Ginny’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Four Winds Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for their care of her.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home Saturday.
