Welcome to the memorial page for

Virginia "Betty" Margaret (Herfel) Oliver

March 2, 1924 ~ July 19, 2017 (age 93)

On July 19th, 2017, Virginia "Betty" Margaret (Herfel) Oliver, born March 2nd, 1924, peacefully passed away.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Anna Herfel; her husband, Marvin; all six of her siblings, Francis Dahlk, Andrew Herfel, Arthur Herfel, Katherine Brown, John Jr Herfel, & Charles Herfel; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Oliver, Scott Oliver, Jason Pruitt, & Lucas Oliver. She is survived by six children, Darrell Oliver, Marva (Bill) Nesbitt, Gary (Sharon) Oliver, Michael (Barb) Oliver, Barbara Pruitt, & Jeffrey (Deniz) Oliver - and between them presenting 17 more grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Virginia's passion & commitment was her family, faith, and community - which led her to be a dedicated worker, devoted wife, loving mother (and grandmother, et al), or just plain "involved in some way" acquaintance ... always ready with assistance, suggestions, or simply a listening ear & something to eat. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. She was cremated and laid to rest beside her husband (Marvin Harold Oliver, August 4th, 1917 - July 1st, 1992) at Roselawn Memorial Park, Madison, WI. At her request there was no service.

Don't cry for me, I will be okay: Heaven is my home now, and this is where I'll stay.
Don't cry for me, I'm where I belong: I want you to be happy and try to stay strong.
Don't cry for me, It was just my time: But I will see you someday on the other side.
Don't cry for me, I am not alone: The angels are with me to welcome me home.
Don't cry for me, for I have no fear: All my pain is gone & Jesus took my tears.
Don't cry for me, this is not the end: ... I'll be waiting here for you - when we meet again.

Virginia was an avid & accomplished gardener and when she wasn't working or gardening, she was either volunteering at her church's Thrift Store or cleaning & mending clothing at home - she fed & clothed many from the bounty of her harvests & the fruits of her labors. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to a local Food Pantry or charitable 2nd-Hand Store.
