Obituary

Robert G. Jacobson, 93, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Robert was born October 2, 1931, in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Arleigh and Marjorie (Miller) Jacobson.

After working on the family farm in the Town of Eagle and graduating from Muscoda High School, where he was a member of the school’s boxing team, Robert enlisted in the Army in June 1951 and served in the Korean War in the Armored Cavalry, where he drove a tank.

After leaving the Army Robert met his future wife, Cheryl Ann McKinney, in Darien Wisconsin where they were married in November 1955. They settled in Madison, where he worked for over 20 years as a molder at Gisholt Machine Company in Madison, followed by another 20+ years as a forklift operator at Carnes Company in Verona, finally retiring in his 80s.

Robert was a fan of the Packers and Brewers attending many games with his grandson. He was also a fan of high school wrestling and followed the Stoughton Vikings.

Robert enjoyed family camping trips in Wisconsin and across the country, including the Canadian Rockies, Maine, and Glacier, Yellowstone and other National Parks. He was always up for a hike on the weekend. Robert and Cheryl enjoyed traveling, including visiting their son in California and New York and day trips around Madison. Even though he knew every back road in the state, Robert said no matter where they were headed, somehow, they always seemed to end up in Lodi.

Survived by son, Kevin; daughter, Lisa Wehrmann; grandchildren, Jeremy (Laken) Wehrmann, Alec Wehrmann, Carrie (Greg) Jaroch; great grandson, Wolfgang; and sister, Anita Herring.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl; parents; son in law, James Wehrmann; and sister, Elaine Mathieson.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dane County Humane Society.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, WI.
