Barbara Eveland
January 01, 1929 - January 13, 2025
Obituary
Madison - Barbara J. Eveland, age 96, passed away on Monday, January 13th, 2025, at Oak Park Place Nakoma. Born on January 1st, 1929, in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Peter and Barbara Greene. She was the 6th of 9 children. Her parents were immigrants of Galway, Ireland. They arrived in Boston prior to WW1.
At the age of 20, Barbara went to a nightclub accompanied by her older sister, Mary, and it was there she met her future husband, Burrell C. Eveland. Burrell was serving in the Navy, and his ship was docked in Boston Harbor for repairs. They were married on Christmas Eve of 1950 in Boston and soon moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where they lived the rest of their lives. Burrell predeceased her in death in 2009.
Barbara and Burrell raised 5 children. Early on, Burrell was a traveling salesman. Many times, he would be out of town Monday-Friday, and Barbara managed the household. This was not always easy as Barbara did not have a driver’s license. Later in the marriage, Barbara said she expressed her interest in learning to drive. Mom said that Dad declined because he was worried she would not come home! We all enjoyed this funny story.
Barbara will be remembered for her faith in God, sense of humor, and love of family. She also enjoyed many years of attendance at the YMCA and the friendships she made there.
Barbara is survived by her children Donna (Martin) Heil, Burrell Jr. (Eva), Daniel Eveland, Mitchell (Doug) Eveland, Michael Eveland, her sister Margaret "Dolly", 6 grandchildren Benjamin, Adrian, Meredith, Ashley, Brittany, Bryan, and 7 great grandchildren Collin, Cade, Carissa, Penelope, Elliot, Cory and Levi.
Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband Burrell, parents Peter and Barbara Greene, brothers John, Thomas, Martin; and sisters Agnes, Mary, Kay, Anne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at St. Maria Goretti Church 5313 Flad Avenue, Madison, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Lunch will be served following the service at the church. A burial will take place following lunch at Sunset Memory Gardens 7302 Mineral Point Rd., Madison, WI.
A special thank you to the staff at Oak Park Place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Agrace Hospice 5395 E Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI.

Barbara was one of the kindest, warmest, and funniest woman I've had the honor of knowing. She loved her family and loved birds and walking. She will forever be in the hearts of the lucky ones who knew her.

Words cannot express my sorrow for the loss of Barbara (Mrs. Eveland). Her love and kindness were felt by everyone that knew her. She nurtured a home that was full of love and a bit of Irish fun. She made me feel as if I was her surrogate son after losing my Mother at the age of 9. My love and condolences to the extended Eveland family.
