Obituary
Dariel Vicente Diancin, 59, passed away on Saturday June 15, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 7, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY, the first born son of Dr. Renato and Concepcion Diancin.
Growing up in Columbus, WI, Dariel had an idyllic childhood and made lifelong friends. His family was tight-knit, and he was the oldest of five children.
Dariel met the love of his life, Julie (Durow), in high school. They were married at Saint James Catholic Church in Madison on May 4, 1991. Julie’s family welcomed Dariel with open arms and together their large families celebrated many birthdays, graduations, and other fun events.
Dariel and Julie were blessed with three beautiful children – Jamie Alexa, Jared Michael, and David Renato – as well as one grandchild, Jaxton Schaffner. Dariel was a very proud father and grandfather, attending their events and showing off pictures of their accomplishments whenever he could.
Dariel was a comic book aficionado and owned and operated Badgerland Comics in Sun Prairie, WI.
Dariel was a collector – not just of things (comic books and memorabilia) but of friends. He claimed to be cynical – but he wasn’t. He always saw the best in people, even when others had given up on them. He was generous to a fault. Many of his friends owe new interests and passions to things Dariel shared with them, whether it was a comic book (or entire comic book series), a new book, collector items, etc. His enthusiasm was catching.
He had an amazing ability to make people feel included, which is probably the reason he had those friends from far and wide. Go ahead, ask someone you know if they know him – I bet it’s closer than the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. He wasn’t just fun – although he certainly was that! – he was smart and witty and loyal…. and most of all kind.
Dariel was also honest. You didn’t have to guess what he thought, he told you. That honesty increased people’s trust in him.
Dariel is survived by his wife Julie; his children - Jamie (son Jaxton Schaffner), Jared, and David; his parents Dr. Renato and Concepcion Diancin; his sister Jessica (Jeff) Lister, brother Vic (Shanna) Dela Cruz, Claro Dela Cruz, and Joseph (Patty) Diancin; brother-in-law Dennis Durow (Trisha Doyle); brother-in-law Dan (Brandi) Durow; brother-in-law Joe Durow (Gail Mountford); sister-in-law Janet Durow; and Jennifer (John) Kolinski: as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by mother and father-in-law, David and Rosemarie Durow; his sister-in-law Debra Durow.
A Celebration of Life in remembrance of Dariel will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024 starting at 11am and leading up to services at 2pm at Ryan Funeral Home in DeForest.
The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice and all the doctors and nurses who cared for Dariel during his illness.
