Obituary For Gloria Louise (Lumina) Accardo
Madison – Gloria Louise (Lumina) Accardo, age 96, died on June 6, 2022, at Agrace in Fitchburg. She was born on May 16, 1926, to Anna (Ponti) and Louis Lumina. She married Peter Accardo in a double wedding ceremony in June 1948, with her sister Virginia to Tom Schmelzer, at St. James Church. Peter passed away in July 1980.
Gloria and Peter raised six children. They are Steven, Linda Pope (Charles), Christine Des Jarlais (Myron), John (Renae), Daniel (Phyllis), and Andrew (Kristina). She also leaves seven grandchildren. They are Carrie Mathison (Pope), Christopher Pope (Jill), Nathan Pope (Carrie), Abby Zinzow, Charles Pope (Liz), Michelle Lee (Preston) and Cory Accardo. She also leaves eleven great grandchildren, many cherished nieces and nephews, cousins, and one sister-in-law Virginia (Lumina) Meitner.
She was preceded in death by her husband Peter, her parents, Anna and Louis Lumina, in-laws Ignazio and Antonina Accardo, brother Lawrence Lumina and sister-in-law Mary, sister Virginia and brother-in-law Tom Schmelzer, brother James Lumina, and sister-in-law Kathleen Welke (Carl)
Gloria graduated in 1944 from Edgewood High School. She attended many class reunions. She and Peter loved to travel their earlier days to Italy, Ireland, and several other European countries. Gloria loved playing cards, golfing and bowling in leagues for many years, cross country skiing and water aerobics with the gals from Middleton. She enjoyed belonging to the Queen of Peace Campers and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Her last years were spent at All Saints Retirement Community and more recently at Agrace. The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice for their wonderful care and support of Gloria in her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 401 South Owen Dr, Madison with Msgr. Larry Bakke officiating. Visitation will take place at 9:30 AM at Queen of Peace with Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish School Endowment Fund.
