Obituary For Kenneth L. Gompert
Arlington - Kenneth L Gompert, age 94, died peacefully at home on June 14, 2022. Kenneth Leon Gompert was born on January 28, 1928 in Colorado to William and Opal (Brau) Gompert. He was married to Evelyn Schmidt on May 9, 1953 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Madison, WI. They lived in Colorado during many of their working years and enjoyed the golf club and hosting out of town relatives.
In 1988, Ken moved back to Arlington, WI with Evelyn to care for her parents. Ken graduated from Hot Sulfur Springs High School in 1947 and began working at Bud Ken’s Electric Shop in Granby, Co. He was drafted into the army in the 40th division and served overseas from 1950 to 1952 in the Korean War. He was recognized for his service with the Army Occupational Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and 1 Overseas Bar. After his honorable discharge, he was employed at MacNeal Auto Electric for 35 years as an Ignition Auto Tech in Colorado. Ken’s love for golf, service to his country, and his faith also found him a lifetime member of the Elks. Ken and Evelyn were active members of Arlington United Methodist Church. He liked to watch sports games on TV, especially his favorite Broncos, and talk about the news. He enjoyed his daily lunch of fried chicken in the later years with Evelyn always across the table.
Ken is survived by his loving wife Evelyn; his cousins Randy (Jody Haak-Reuter) Reuter, Chelsea (John) Reuter-Seng, Rodney (Jennifer) Reuter, Bryan Reuter (Whitney Anderson), Ashley (Andy) Lemar, Andrew Reuter (Holly Mcalpin), and other dear friends and relatives. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and step-sister, Mary Ann Cooper.
The family would like to thank the caregivers who helped fulfill his wishes to stay home throughout his life; especially Pat, Sheila, Cindy, and Agrace CNAs.
“Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.” - Ken
