Obituary For Lorraine "Connie" M. Allord

Madison- Lorraine M. “Connie” Allord, age 102, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in Madison, WI. She was born on January 27, 1920, to George and Ruth (Reibel) Conley in Tomahawk, WI.

Connie was their only child and spent much of her youth helping on the farm and enjoying fishing and hunting with her parents. She married Lawrence “Larry” Allord on November 8, 1941, less than a month before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Larry joined the U. S. Navy Seabees and Connie joined the newly formed U. S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve, reporting in 1943. She became an air traffic controller at Cherry Point, NC until 1945 as a staff sergeant. Connie became the first woman in Wisconsin to earn her pilot's license using the G.I. Bill. The friendships made with fellowmarines stayed important for the rest of her life.

Connie and Larry returned to Wisconsin where, except for several years in Wausau, they continued to live in Middleton and Madison where they raised their three children, Gary, Greg, and Julie. Both were active in numerous organizations as well. Larry passed in 2001 after almost 60 years of marriage.

Connie had an active career as a ceramic instructor, secretary, retail sales, and realtor. She continued to be greatly involved as a volunteer on numerous veterans and women Marines’ committees and organizations. Connie also was active in the Senior Olympics.

Lorraine “Connie” Allord is survived by her three children, Gary Allord (Nancy Kendall), Greg Allord (Kathy Allord), and Julie Allord (Jon Plamann); her five grandchildren, Becky Ketarkus (Joseph), Matt Allord (Laura), Joanna Ames (Chris), Lauren Allord, Thomas Allord; and 15 great-grandchildren.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
