Obituary For Marcia Dee Welch

Marcia Dee Welch, age 76, of Fitchburg, WI passed away July 8th from complications due to Alzheimer’s.

Born to the late M.D. and Maxine Newcomer, January 24, 1946, in Galesburg, IL, Marcia graduated from Galesburg High School then received a B.A. in Biology from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1968. After graduating college Marcia married in Denver CO, raised two children in the Chicago area, and relocated to Madison, WI to pursue growing her business and personal interests.

Marcia is survived by her family and the many, many people she made an indelibly positive impact on.

In 1986 Marcia Welch took a chance on herself, trusted her instincts, and founded Newcomer Supply. 37 years later Newcomer Supply is a leading histology supply company providing products to laboratories all over the country. Marcia would be proud to see what she built continues to grow and thrive. For those of you who knew Marcia know that she was an energetic, straight forward person with little tolerance for peoples BS. For that and many more reasons everyone who knew her, loved and respected Marcia, and her outsized personality.

I worked with Marcia for a couple years and we remained friends all this while. It has been a long time since I saw her or spoke to her and my heart is heavy to hear she passed. She was a great lady. We had our challenges in the beginning but we overcame them and I'm a stronger person for knowing her.

I had lunch with Marcia many times at the Illinois Histotechnology meetings, and every single memory that I have of her involves laughing. She was an absolute joy to talk to, and my histo friends and I will be referencing her stories for the rest of our lives. Marcia was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

Marcia presented one of the first immunohistochemistry workshops for the Wisconsin Histology Society. This subject was cutting edge information for pathologic diagnosis. Marcia was an excellent teacher. She put humor into her lectures making science more understandable. Marcia's status as an educator & later a vendor made her a convenient source for a troubleshooting histology problems. Marcia's wonderful face & sparkling personality was always a highlight at every histology event & symposium. Marcia made an impact on everyone with her big energy & passion for life. I consider myself blessed to count her as a friend, an advisor and a mentor in science. The world will miss the love & sunshine of Marcia Welch. Love always, Jackie xoxo

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
