Obituary For Paul George Zeier

DEFOREST – Paul George Zeier, age 63, passed away at his home from a heart condition on Sunday, September 18, 2022. Paul was born February 18, 1959 in Madison, WI to Herbert and Gertrude (Klein) Zeier. He attended Pumpkin Hollow grade school and graduated from DeForest Area High School in 1977. While at DeForest High School, he wrestled all four years, and made it to the state competition held at the UW Fieldhouse his junior and senior years. Paul was also a president of FFA, NHS, as well as a member of the junior prom court. He was a member of 4-H where he showed and won blue ribbons with his young heifers at the Dane Co. Fair, with one making it to the state level. Paul was a life-long farmer who loved his cows and calves. He had a strong faith and was a devoted member of St. Olaf Catholic Parish in DeForest. Every December he would climb the large silo on his property and hang a large Christmas star that could be seen by passing cars on Interstate 90. Paul had a reputation for eating, he could load a plate like you couldn’t believe. He was still driving the first car he ever bought, a 1986 Monte Carlo. Paul enjoyed the Packers and Badgers, even going to the Rose Bowl. Paul lived life on his own terms and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Paul is survived by his siblings, Gary (Charlotte) and their children Mark and Ryan, and grandchildren William and Liliana; Thomas; David and his children Aric and Megan; Eileen; Kenneth (Debbie) and their children, Sophia (Jordan) Skeith and grandson James, other children Troy and Fiona; Barbara (Matt) Tokuz and their children Jared and Justin. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Karen; and niece, Rose.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. I met Paul for the first time about 15 years ago. A hard working individual, true to his vocation.

My favorite memory of Paul was when he took a vacation and came to visit my family in AZ. He was amazed by the fresh green hay (his words) we had here, and the very large dairy farms. I remember pulling over so he could jump out to touch and smell that hay which he accomplished with the enthusiasm of a child at Christmas. We went to a Frank Lloyd Wright tour of a home another day. His enthusiasm and fascination with everything was truly infectious! It was very sad to see the best house guest in the world ever leave, but I could sense he truly missed the farm. This has been such a cherished memory for me, and I felt it was too good to just keep to myself!

I am so sorry to hear about Paul's passing and I offer my deepest sympathy to the entire family. Paul was a friend of our family and was a person who lived his life in a way we all admired. He prioritized his responsibilities and his faith along with family and friends. Paul was someone who I personally admired. He reached out in kindness to anyone in need, always had a smile on his face and easily offered a prayer or help without a second thought. He was a treasure and a gift to all who knew him and sadly the time with us here on earth, was cut too short. I know that he will be sharing his many gifts and talents in heaven. It brings my heart joy to know he will be reunited with his loved ones that have passed before him. Love you always, Paul! Andrea (Heisig) Perkins

My deepest sympathy to the entire Zeier family. I am very sorry for your loss. I did not know Paul well but knew him a little bit thru wrestling & was good friends with his brother Ken in high school & college years & beyond. I do know that Paul was a hard worker and one of the good guys you would certainly want to cheer for. God Bless, Paul R. Blackmon

Paul was such a kind man and will be missed so much. I bought some barn wood from him years ago so that I could make a kitchen table out of it. That table is a forever reminder of what a beautiful man he was inside and out and I am so honored to have it. Joy Ihland (Eric, Anna and Andy)

Paul once came out to see a Wisconsin Badgers football game against Penn State. We had a great time not only at the game, but when we went down to Washington DC. When in DeForest, I would stop by his farm to see what was new. A buddy gone way to early. Brice Arndt

Paul was such a good friend and christian. Loved food and attending farm dinners. He worked at the St. Olaf dinner and bought leftover pies for his freezer. So sorry to hear of his passing but know he will be joined with his mother and other heavenly family members and friends. R.I.P.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

James S. | July 2020

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Michael M. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
