Obituary For Richard "Dick" Arend

Richard A. Arend passed away January 5th, 2023, at age 85. Dick was born August 16, 1937 in Eminence, Indiana. He attended and graduated from Eminence High School and then Indiana University where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. Dick worked as a research scientist primarily doing pioneering research in cancer and jaundice. Dick was a longtime member of First Christian Church, Martinsville, IN, where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday school with his wife, Judy. He also loved to tinker, he would take things apart and put them back together, usually with a piece or two left over.

Dick was known for always having a smile on his face and his intelligence. Every time his name is brought up in conversation, the first thing people reply is “oh, I love that guy”.

Dick is survived by his wife, Judy, of 59 years; his son Shaun; son Michael; daughter-in-law Emily; two grandchildren; and sister, Carol. Richard will be greatly missed and always loved.

Dick was preceded in death by his father Leland; mother, Blanche; brother Gene; and sister Pat.

Services will be held at a later date.

I'm very sorry to hear about the death of your dad, Mike. Your dad was a very unique man. I remember many stories with him and he was also a very smart man working downtown researching cancer and all. My condolences to the whole Arend family.

Dick married my sister when I was 5 years old. He was the best brother-in-law ever. Looked after his little sisters. He was kind, intelligent, and so much fun. Such a special part of our family. We will all miss him.

So sorry to hear about Dick. I have known him over 40 years. His sister in law, Kathy Davenport is my best friend. He was a wonderful man. Luckily I got to see him last September. I will treasure that time. RIP Dick. You will be missed

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
