Obituary For Richard Louis Hoard

The family of Richard Louis Hoard celebrates his life and mourns his passing on October 24th, 2022. Rich was born on August 30, 1936, in Flora, IL. He was the eldest child of Malvern Richard Hoard and Hazel Bowles Hoard. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1958 with a degree in General Engineering. At Illinois he met and married the love of his life, Sandra Halliday. They had 4 children: Cindy (Jim), Debora (Tom), Rich (Angie) and Trish (Michael) and their wonderful Brazilian brother, Fernando (Denise). The family moved multiple times – Illinois, Kansas, NJ, Illinois, NJ – along the way Rich received his MBA from the University of Chicago, advanced in business career, and discovered a love for Broadway and the beach. The family went each summer to the shore where Rich loved welcoming friends and family from all over the world. After retiring in Charlotte, NC, he began volunteering at the Urban Ministry Center (Roof Above), helping people who are homeless, or were formerly homeless. He found this so rewarding it became his second career, ending 20 years later, when he and Sandy really retired and moved to Wisconsin in 2020. Rich is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Sandy, his children and their spouses, and his grandchildren Sandra, John (Katrina), Ronan, Kate (Rob), Georgia, Rachel, and Rebekah, and his great grandson, Nick, two more on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen Hoard (Jody). In lieu of flowers, donations in Rich’s name may be made to Roof Above, 945 N. College Street, Charlotte, NC. 28206

I just happened to see this Richard's obituary and I think it's wonderful that he helped out the homeless which was an interest that I had but I was scrolling through Google looking for something and so I just want to offer prayers of comfort for the family. If anyone wants prayer, letting you know you can call me at 608-800-1922. God bless and may you feel the comfort of the Good Shepherd's arms.

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Services provided for both parents were perfect, on time, and no issues. Brenda is awesome and strong!

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
