Obituary For Rosalie J. Schilling

Madison - Rosalie Schilling (Johnson) age 96 died November 22, 2022 at her daughter's home in Madison, Wisconsin.

Rosalie was born October 20, 1926 to August and Eva Johnson. Except for a short time spent in Manitowoc and Madison, she lived in Minocqua her whole life. She married Richard Schilling on June 29, 1951. They raised four children together. Rosalie worked as a soda jerk, bank teller, bookkeeper, and store clerk throughout her life as well as being a homemaker. If she wasn't cooking and cleaning, she was gardening and sewing. She loved her daily walks around "The Island", reading, traveling, and playing bridge.

Rosalie is survived by her daughters Katie (Joe) Pollock and Sue Schilling, her granddaughters Jody and Anita, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Rich, son Ben, daughter Anne, sister Florence, and brother Bob.

Katie and Sue would like to thank Agrace Hospice, notably Rebecca, Carmen, and Melody. Your support and kindness are deeply appreciated.

There will be a private family burial at a later date. Please send any donations to the Lakeland Food Pantry.

From what I knew of Gretch, from our bridge games, she was a wonderful, interesting woman. Once she decided not to venture to the bridge table, we had many wonderful phone discussions including the books we'd read. When I worked with AARP preparing income tax returns, she came in with Rosalie's info. That confused me, because I only knew her as Gretch. Never did find out where the nickname came from. She'll always be a fond memory. Karen Loichinger

Dear Katie and Susan, I would like to extend our family's condolences on the passing of your mom. She was always a pleasure to talk with as she had so much knowledge of local history! I truly enjoyed exchanging stories with her since our family's roots go deep in Woodruff's history. I have no doubt that my mom was waiting for her 'Gretchen' at the bridge table of heaven! Partners again! Our sincerest sympathy, Kathy Wilke and family PS. Keegan and I were just downtown this past weekend and he asked about your mom. He enjoyed her company as well... ; )

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
