Obituary For Theodore "Ted" Richard Ryder

Madison - Theodore “Ted” Richard Ryder, age 78, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at his residence. He was born on December 23, 1943, at the Methodist Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin to parents Pauline Lorraine (Schmitz) and Theodore R. Ryder, Sr.

Ted served in the U.S Army also serving in the Vietnam War. In 2019, Ted and his daughter Jeri got to ride on the Badger Honor Flight. Ted also enjoyed volunteering at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. He was employed at Ryan Brothers Ambulance, AB Dick Company, and the State of Wisconsin where he retired from. Ted was a lifelong member of both the VFW Post 8483 and the American Legion Post 501. His hobbies included playing cards, watching baseball, attending Rose Bowls and National Championships, traveling with his wife Nancy and their friends, and scaring people because that was his source of laughter.

Ted is survived by his 3 children Theodore R. Ryder, Jr., Jayme Lynn Lyons, and Jeri Lynn (Brad) Evans; 8 grandchildren Cody, Jonathon, Jr., Justin, Josh, Alyssa Lynn, Tanner, Kyle, and Cory; sister Roz (Ed) Mazure, brother Jim Ryder, brother Walter Church; special friend and fellow veteran, Vandy Prior; and many special nieces and nephews he was close to. Ted had a special place in his heart for his late wife, Nancy’s family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy; parents; son Jonathon Sr.; sisters Nancy, Sheila, and Janet, and brother Ron, stepdaughter Linda Roll, step granddaughter Jennifer Waite, and step great grandson Joseph Waite.

A special thank you to the amazing staff at The Arbors at Oak Park Place, especially Michelle Ballweg whom Ted enjoyed sharing his stories with. Also, Nancy Thomas, former Director of Nursing for her matter of fact care and guidance during his journey to heaven. Ted’s wishes were for no services to be held. A private interment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park where he will be buried next to his sisters.

Malachi 4:6 “He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents”

what our families say

Tiffany Foster went out of her way to fulfill all my requests, talked me through problems I was facing, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible when I was a wreck, totally crushed, and I thank her with all of my heart for that.

The professional manner of the staff made a difficult time a little easier.

Lynda R. | July 2020

Skyler was absolutely amazing. She was so caring and helpful through this whole process. She even went above and beyond to meet with us in DeForest and even to make a stop at our home to drop off or pick up anything needed. While it was a small gesture, it was so helpful and greatly appreciated.
