Carla Demp, age 34, of Verona, passed away at Froedtert Medical Center, Wauwatosa, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Carla was born July 30, 1986, in Milwaukee to Bruce and Alice Weffenstette and grew up in the Cedarburg/Grafton area. She graduated with high honors from Cedarburg High School in 2004. She attended UW Madison, majoring in chemical engineering, but was forced to withdraw due to her chronic illness. Carla was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in early life and fought hard to manage it over the years.
Carla relished life and was grateful for every breath. She faced each hurdle with incredible strength and grace. Carla was known for her self-advocacy, knowledge of her condition and medical issues. She was active in promoting aid and solutions for CF adults and other disabilities. She received the gift of a double lung transplant in 2017.
Her great heart reached out to everyone, and to meet Carla was to become her friend. Her smile lit every room. She was interested in music, ballroom dance, travel, writing, quilting, sewing and other crafts.
She is survived by her parents; brother, Darin Weffenstette (Tony Baker); loving partner, George Ray; dear friends; the Swenson Family who knew her as Auntie Carla, and many others around the world.
A Celebration of Life for Carla is planned for July 31, 2021 at Badger Prairie Park, Verona, from 12 noon to 5 pm. Info will be available on Facebook on Carla’s personal page.
