Obituary

Joan Dros Allen died on November 13, 2020; she was 77. She passed away of respiratory issues caused by the COVID-19 infection she acquired in April 2020. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Born in Chicago, IL and raised in her teens in Wausau, WI, she spent her adult life in Madison, Wisconsin. Joan received her undergraduate degree and her graduate degree in Library Science from the UW, Madison, which led to a career working with the rare book collection at the UW-Madison Memorial Library. In that pursuit she travelled to Moscow in 1970 to the International Library Convention.  She was a lifelong Democrat and met John F Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy as a Young Democrat. She was interested in political events and a proud Badger supporter attending the 1963 Rose Bowl.  Joan was also a long-time member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Joan is survived by her husband of 47 years, Douglass Allen and her daughter, Heather Allen, her sisters, Mary Kay Cline, nee Dros and Carol Leweling, nee Dros, brother, Paul Dros and sister-in-law, Dareen Allen. She is preceded in death by sister, Barbara Dros, parents, Sophie Dros, nee Walenga, and Paul Dros as well as beloved Aunts and Uncles including Anna Buchowski, nee Dros and Corky Buchkowski of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Uncle Father Ted Walenga.

She also leaves behind treasured nieces and a nephew and their families: Tara Leweling, Christina Leweling, Katherine Leweling, Elizabeth Leweling, Carissa Cline, Nicole Dros, Robert Dros, Barbara DuVan-Clarke and Ellen DuVan.
