John F Brady

November 21, 1924 ~ July 11, 2021 (age 96)


Platteville – John F. Brady, age 96, of Platteville, formerly of Madison, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He was born on November 21, 1924, in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of James P. and Josephine (Mueller) Brady. He married Alpha M. Bytell of Laona, WI, on August 21, 1948. John was a graduate of Fond du Lac Senior High School and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with a major in Accounting. He was employed by CUNA (Credit Union National Association) and retired as the Senior Vice-President-Finance in 1990. He was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Pilot. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church serving on the Finance Commission, Education Commission, commentator, and usher. He was active in community affairs serving on committees with the Madison Chamber of Commerce, United Way, RFDF, St. Coletta’s, ARC, MARC, and the Westside Coalition of Older Adults. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 410, and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Council #531. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and cross-country skiing. John was a loving, generous, and caring person who devoted his life to the service of others.

John is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Mutschler (Craig Fink) of Platteville, and Beth Brady of Madison; four grandchildren, Shanna Hesthaven of Green Bay, Sava (Staci) Hesthaven of Shakopee, MN., Joe Mutschler of Madison, and Jenny (Karl) Williams of Potosi; 3 great grandchildren to date and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Alpha; and their daughter, Kathleen Hesthaven (formerly of Colorado Springs, CO), his parents and sister Leone (Brady) Zangl of Fond du Lac.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peach Catholic Church, 401 S Owen Dr., Madison, at 10:00am on Saturday, August 21, 2021.
