MADISON – Larry Lloyd Elliott, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2019. He was born December 12, 1948 in Madison, to parents Lloyd Alex and Josephine Jane (Degregory) Elliott. Larry is survived by his sister, Toni Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Josephine.

Larry was a 1966 graduate of West High School. At age 17, he played Beethoven’s piano concerto No. 1 with the Madison Symphony Orchestra. He went on to study piano at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where he studied rigorously under Olga Conus and Paul Badura-Skoda. Larry then decided to become a music instructor, teaching piano lessons and began focusing on art.

Larry went on to become an incredible artist, although mostly self-taught, Larry studied drawing at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and received instruction from Aaron Bohrod. Larry’s incredible magic realism oil paintings were represented in New York City and Chicago galleries. Larry continued his art career with many commissions, student portraits and was published in many national art magazines, including the American Art Review. In 1984, Richard H. Love published a book titled “New Paintings by Larry Elliott – Synthesis of fantasy and reality”. Larry shared his passion for art and music by becoming an art and piano instructor and taught from his home. Students, families, and friends enjoyed Larry’s honest exuberance, passionate character and unique and personalized approach to teaching.

Larry was dearly loved by his sister, Toni Elliott (Johnson), his mother Josephine and by his grandparents, Bud and Sarah Degregory. He is also incredibly loved, respected and honored by hundreds of his Piano and Art students whom he taught for over 50 years.

Larry believed in God and the Bible, and held hope in the words of Psalms 37:10, 11 and Revelations 21:4 where the “meek would inherit the earth” and “when death would be no more”. Larry provided support for everyone who needed help, and had a funny sense of humor in spite of tragedy touching his life. We long to welcome him back in the earthly resurrection spoken of in John 5:25, 28.

Larry will be remembered as a wonderful son, incredibly loving brother, cherished friend and beloved teacher. Larry recorded all 20 of Chopin’s Nocturnes which can be found on YouTube and Larry’s artwork published with
