Obituary

DeForest – Mary M. (McGill) Hankins, age 78, passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 after a short battle with cancer at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. She was born on June 12, 1942 to Thomas McGill and Cecelia (Kuchar) McGill. She graduated from Prairie Du Sac High School in 1961. Mary married Richard Hankins on May 30, 1962 in Madison. Mary was a huge Brewer, Packer and Badger fan. She enjoyed camping on the Mississippi for many years. She also enjoyed boating, golfing and softball. Mary bowled for many years and received the Grand Duchess Award at the State tournament. Mary enjoyed any time with friends and laughter and a few good jokes of her own. She felt very fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom. Home with her kids and grand babies.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rich; two children, Brian (Joanna) Hankins of DeForest and Becky (Dean) Hankins of Madison; three grandchildren, Kyle (Stephanie) Hankins of Lodi, Cole (Rose) Hankins of Madison and Kira (Dave) Hankins of DeForest; one very precious Great-Grand baby, Kendra Hankins of Lodi. She is also survived by siblings, Jerry (Anne) McGill of Lodi, Judy Hutchinson of Sun Prairie, Jack (Kathy) McGill of Sun Prairie and Ron (Jan) McGill of Madison; seven very special nieces and nephews; twelve great-nieces and nephews; and many other dear friends and relatives. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-dad, Mick Grimm; brothers, Tom and Jim. 

Due to COVID, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mary’s name to Agrace Hospice or to the family.
