MADISON – Bill Earl Patrick Conroy, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Oakwood Prairie Ridge in Madison and is now in his heavenly home with his wife and child. Bill was born on June 17, 1930 in Madison, WI. He was raised by his grandparents, Christopher and Regina Holborn and grew up on the Eastside of Madison.
Bill was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Carmela Montelto. He graduated from Central High School in 1948 and enrolled into the University of Wisconsin Madison. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, he began his career with Caterpillar Tractor Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1991. He rose thru design engineering ranks to become Technical Manager and was responsible for design and manufacturing processes of big wheel loaders. Bill was first assignment at Caterpillar in Peoria, IL, and then transferred to the Tech Center in Japan, which was a joint venture company in new product development projects.
Working for Caterpillar he was able to travel all over the world, thru Europe, Asia, USA and places such as Tokyo, Japan and Mitsubishi plants. Bill moved to Florida in 1994. He loved fishing, traveling, watching baseball the Cubs and Green Bay Packers. He told great stories about his life, was wise, generous, kind and was loved by all who met him.
Bill was a past president of East Peoria Jaycees, Triangle Frat.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Carmela; son, William; parents and grandparents.
A private family and friends Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2450 Atwood Ave., Madison with Father Michael Radowicz presiding. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
