Obituary
MADISON- Shirley Ann Whitehead, age 80, passed away on April 30, 2016. She was born in Sparta, WI, on October 23, 1935, the daughter of William Harley and Lucille Mae (Beardsley) (Brown) Whitehead. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1953 and went on to obtain her Nursing Degree from Madison College. Shirley spent the majority of her nursing career at the former Methodist Hospital (now Meriter Hospital).
After her retirement she owned a used book store, Aardvark, in Madison, and sewed for the Madison Opera for many years. Shirley made beautiful stained glass pieces, collected antiques, and dressed and collected antique dolls. She is survived by her sisters, Arlene Norris, Madison, WI, and Jeanine (Thomas) Hooteveldt, Sparta, WI; brother-in-law, Thomas Fettig; nieces and nephews, Timothy (Madeline) Norris, Madison, WI, Tracy (Colin) Yates, Arvada, CO, Diana (Richard) Ewert, David (Amy) Hooteveldt, Wisconsin Rapids, Grace (John) Glick, Duluth, MN, Sherri (Michael) Limbrich, Milwaukee, WI, Lisa Fasano, Gilbert, AZ, and Rebecca Fettig, San Francisco, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Geraldine Fettig.
Shirley spent her last year living at The Jefferson, where she made many new friends and took part in and enjoyed all their daily activities.
Shirley will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Sparta.
