John Vraga

Madison - John Vraga, 69, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018, at UW Hospital. He was born August 13, 1948 in Racine to Stanley and Rosemary Vraga.

John graduated from Racine St. Catherine High School in 1966. He attended UW- Racine, UW-Madison and Madison College, receiving his Associates Degree in Business.

He started coaching at Racine St. Joseph’s Elementary School in 1965. He coached football, basketball, and baseball from 1969 through 1986 at Madison’s Edgewood High School (EHS), earning several honors including the Wisconsin State Journal’s 1977 Baseball Coach of the Year.

John dedicated 42 years to Edgewood High School serving in a variety of roles including Assistant Athletic Director. He was known for his consistent smile, sense of humor and excruciating puns. He had strong family ties, especially with his mother, Rosemary. He was a devout Catholic known for leading in song and prayer with his booming voice.

John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Sue Vraga; nieces, Emily (Hans), Amanda and Becky Vraga; and grandnephew and grandniece, Henry and Tori.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Good Shepherd Catholic Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1905 W. Beltline Hwy, Madison, with Msgr. Thomas Baxter officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Racine.

We would like to thank John’s families at EHS and Good Shepherd Parish for the love, support and friendship throughout the years. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made to Edgewood High School Athletic Association, 2219 Monroe Street, Madison, WI 53711.
