Douglas Knudtson
February 13, 1930 - April 18, 2025
Obituary
Douglas P. Knudtson, a lifelong resident of DeForest passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 18th at his home. He was the great grandson of Knudt Knudtson, an early settler of the village who built the train depot which ensured train service to the young and growing community. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Greenland and Panama. After his service, Doug started painting houses and it became his life’s work. At one point, he also ran a small shoe shop out of the garage next to his home on Holum St. Doug celebrated his 95th birthday in February and could be seen as recently as this past fall, riding his bike throughout town and the surrounding countryside.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Esther Knudtson, two brothers Dean (his son Lane) and Vernon, an uncle Clifford (known as Caddock), and a stepson Bob Baker. He is survived by his wife Elaine, Dean’s wife Carol, his niece Kris Ann and her three children; Rick’s wife Nancy, their children Revilly Ann, Mike and three grandchildren who reside in North Carolina; and a son Doug Jr (Kathryn) and their daughters Elizabeth and Gretchen who live in Oklahoma.
The family is grateful for the assistance given to Doug and Elaine these past few years by their friends, members of the Moravian Church and the Cornerstone Community Center.
A celebration of his life will be held at a date to be announced later. He will be laid to rest in the family plot at the Moravian Cemetary. To share a memory or condolence, please visit Doug's obituary at: www.ryanfuneralservice.com.
