Salome Brown
November 30, 1933 - May 29, 2025
Obituary
Verona-
Beloved Mother, Salome Jane Brown, of Verona, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 29, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. She was born to Elgin and Helen (Miller) Hicks on November 30, 1933, in Winslow, Illinois, and was the eldest of two daughters. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1951 where she met Robert “Joe” Brown, the love of her life, marrying him on June 16, 1951, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, Illinois. They were married for 61 years until Joe’s passing in 2013.
She is survived by her sister, Judith Hammer, her four children: Pamela Grant (Michael), Daniel (Rachel) Brown, Veronica Savoie (Steven Kaufman) and Jean Brown Ama (Brad); her grandchildren, Lucas Grant (Rachel), Emma Grant, Eliott Savoie (Hannah), Collin Brown, Delaney Savoie (Steve Kinney), Ryan Brown, Cria Ama, Madeline Savoie (Matt Poulsen) Isaac Ama, and Sophie Savoie; two great grandchildren Rowan Grant and Paxton Kinney; many nieces and nephews; and countless kind neighbors and friends from the church and community who helped her live a fulfilling life in Verona for many years after Joe passed away.
Salome loved singing and did so with the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church Choir in Verona for many years. She will also forever and fondly be remembered for: her love of dancing, earning her the nickname “Dancing Queen” at family weddings; her athleticism, from her cheerleading days in high school, through backyard baseball, volleyball, badminton and tossing bags in corn hole; her telepathic euchre skills; and for long conversations, both silly and serious, over perpetual black coffee at her kitchen table, as she was a very good listener and warm-hearted adviser to all.
She loved the color red, her animal companions, decorating at Christmas, and her family, who was everything to her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite word was “Peace.” May it now be with her and all who loved her.
Salome was preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband Joe Brown, his parents and siblings, many cherished aunts and uncles, and her brother-in-law Pete Hammer.
