Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Weiland Hoffman passed on to eternal life on August 6, 2025. Dorothy was born in Wautoma, Wisconsin to parents Max Weiland and Emma Bohn on April 18, 1928. She was the youngest of 10 children, many of whom worked the family farm. Under the encouragement and support of her sister, Linda, Dorothy moved to the big city of Madison where she worked in administration for the Dane County offices and later as a receptionist for Dr. Maloof. Dorothy was married to Cosmas Hoffman (one of nine brothers of Hoffman House Restaurant fame). Together they had four children, Gail Jackson (James) of North Carolina, Thomas Hoffman (Virginia) of Utah, Karen Palmer (Don) of Pennsylvania and Ronald Hoffman of Michigan. Dorothy and Cos enjoyed winters in Sarasota, Florida and the rest of their time in Madison. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, all of her nine siblings and her husband. Dorothy specialized in making holidays exceptional, spending countless hours decorating the family home and preparing a feast for family, friends and relatives to partake. She became known among her six grandchildren, six step grandchildren, and six great grandchildren as “Christmas Grandma”. Dorothy also enjoyed golfing and bowling of which she achieved trophies in both. She was also the “Bingo Queen” of her retirement home in Sarasota. Private family services will be held for Dorothy.
