Obituary
Robert B. Sobek, age 87, passed away on September 2, 2025, at his residence. He was born on October 6, 1937, to Berdeen and Myrl (Rounds) Sobek in Boscobel, Wisconsin. His early years were spent on a farm in Hoover Hollow near the border of Richland and Crawford counties until about 1947. Around 1947, the family purchased and moved to the former Crawford County Poor Farm between Seneca and Eastman, Wisconsin.
Robert graduated from Seneca High School on May 18, 1956. He joined the Army in 1957, and took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and jump training to be a paratrooper at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He married Marlene Knudson in Reedsburg, Wisconsin on September 10, 1958.
Following his discharge from the Army, they farmed in the rural Reedsburg area for a few years before moving to Madison in 1964. Bob drove for the Madison City Bus Service and a school bus for Badger Bus Service. He then worked for Precast Concrete for many years before beginning work in the sanitation department at Oscar Mayer in Madison. He also drove school bus, providing service to the DeForest Area Schools. The family moved to DeForest in 1968 and lived in their home until moving to Windsor in 2021. He was also a nearly 50-year member of the Christian Faith Moravian Church.
Together for almost 67 years, Bob and Marlene raised 5 children; Sherry of DeForest, David (Dina) of Lake Mills, Sally of DeForest, Dale (Stacey) of West Bend, and Daniel (Kari) of Monona; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, all of whom survive him. He is further survived by his sister Patty (Bruce) Downing of Steuben; and sister-in-law Shiela (Ronald) Sobek; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him to the heavenly kingdom were his parents Berdeen and Myrl; brothers Ron and Ted; sister Nancy Brewer; brother-in-law Robert Brewer; and sister-in-law Judy.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest, and also again on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Christian Faith Moravian Church, 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the Christian Faith Moravian Church in DeForest.
