Obituary

Nancy Kay Kinney, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the home of her daughter Kim, surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old. Born on June 23, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Ivan and Anna Fluckiger. Nancy grew up on a dairy farm in Verona, Wisconsin, with her sister and two brothers.

After graduating from Verona High School, she worked at CUNA Mutual. A year later, she met her husband for life, Dan Kinney, at a wedding. She had his heart at the moment she asked him, "Can I wash your car?" Soon, they were married and heading to Green County to buy a dairy farm. She loved her work on the farm, but mostly she loved her family. This past summer, they hit the milestone of 60 years of marriage. Nancy’s greatest joy came from caring for her children and grandchildren. She created a home where love was shown through faith, food, laughter, and time spent together. Her lasagna, apple bars, potato salad, banana bread, jams, and many delicious cakes became family traditions—dishes that always brought everyone back to their table.

She leaves behind her husband, Dan, and their children: Don (Cathy) Kinney, Debra (Steve) Krebs, Becki Sellnow, Barb (Scott) Schmiesing, Kim Kinney, Kris (Jim) Dudzik, John (Maria) Kinney, and Janeen (Christopher) Nechkash. Nancy was the proud grandmother of 27 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 6, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Leeanna (Colton) with Cayson and Emersyn Brugger; Dallas Kinney; Kate (Ben) with Tobias Smith; Jack and Luke Krebs; Taylor (Becka) with Josephine, and Samuel Sellnow; Treavor (Minji) with Sunny Sellnow; Justin; Celine (Logan) Peterson, Addy, Brent, Joe, Michael, Sydnee, and Evie Schmiesing; Maria, Danny, Tommy, Sara, Jimmy, Clare, Johnny, and Joseph Dudzik; Juliana, Charlie, and Michaela Kinney; and Tatum Nechkash; sister: Pat (Urban) Klosterman; brothers: Bob (Amber) Fluckiger, Larry (Tracy)Fluckiger.

She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Daniel Kinney (infant); her parents; and her in-laws, Wilfred and Mary Kinney.

Nancy will be remembered for her faith, warm heart, and hospitality to family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the recipes passed down, the gardens she tended, and the family and friends she cherished so deeply.

Special thanks to Dr. Callander and the UW Carbone Cancer Center for 18 years of exceptional care and kindness while she battled Multiple Myeloma.

I remember Nancy and her sister Pat from many years ago. We attended Stoner, a one room school in Fitchburg. Thinking about Nancy, I can see her twinkling and brown eyes, and those deep dimples when she smiled. The fluckiger family remain an important part in my memory of growing up on a farm. My heart goes out to Nancy‘s family and to my good friend Pat. Mary Beth Jordan Lewison.

I was 9 yrs old when we moved onto Sandy Hook Rd. Our horses got out alot, and that's how I first met our neighbors. I came up to the front door and one little, two little, three little, four little heads came boppin' up to greet me!! I asked them if their mommy was home and that's when I met the nicest lady ever and this is why. When she talked to me she looked right into my eyes and I could always tell that she cared about what I had to say. When she talked about her kids, she had a smile that just would not leave her face no matter which of her 8 children, and later on grandchildren she was talking about. She just loved being a mom. Somehow, no matter when you stopped over she had fresh baked goods. Juggling so many children and chores galore running a farm, I have no idea when she had time to bake and cook but she loved it and we sure did too!! There were so many good memories of babysitting knowing there'd be decadent brownies, pies, and cookies that we were sure to get. The Kinneys weren't just our neighbors, they were absolutely our friends. and after chores every night in the summer we would rotate farms, stay up lste, and play volleyball. There are so many good memories of Nancy, but most of all the kindness, the patience, and the love she showed us photos was remarkable!!
