Obituary
Boyd Jay Mielke, age 92, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Madison Pointe Sr. Living in Madison, WI. He was born on March 14, 1933, to Chester and Iola (Sturm) Mielke in Carter, WI. He married Jean Doyle on November 15, 1952, in Madison, WI. Boyd worked as a railroad switch man for 41 years, retiring from Chicago Northwestern in 1993.
He was a true outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing. Boyd enjoyed 4wheeling, playing cards, cribbage and gardening. Many weekends you would find Boyd and Jean heading to the cabin up in the Northwoods. He loved his dogs and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him.
Boyd is survived by his children, Connie (Dave) Radewan, Ken (Mary) Mielke, Ed (Kathy) Mielke, Gari-Lynn Mielke (Curtis Kee), Bob (Mary) Mielke, Sue (Steve) Freye; grandchildren, Cameron (Kay) Radewan, Katrina (Chris) Williams, Cassandra (Adam) Koch, Josh, Jeremy, and Jessica Mielke, Curtis Kee Jr., Samantha Mielke, Ashr McSherry, Tyler (Jayme) Freye, Travis (Liz) Freye; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Riley Radewan, Ethan and Evan Williams, Daxton, Deacon, and Dillon Koch, Aziah, Charley, and Micah Webster, Diego, Dominic, and Nevaeh Hernandez-Mielke, Camryn Tierney, Shelby and Jordan Kelly, Cattleya Rae, Imani Rose and Silvia Marie Lemieux-Kee, Breleigh, McKenna, Ryleigh, and Hadley Freye; sister, Midge (Punky) Flynn; brother in-law, Tom VanSweden, Mike Doyle (Karen), Patrick Doyle (Elly) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Mielke; parents, Chester and Iola (Sturm) Mielke; parents in-law, James and Odelia (Gericke) Doyle; sisters, Bonnie VanSweden, and Gwen Mathis; brother in-law, James Doyle; sister in-law, Bonnie Doyle; and granddaughter, Christina Mielke.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Ave, Madison, WI. Visitation will be held at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at church with a luncheon to follow. A private family burial with Military Honors will be held in Townsend, WI at a later date.
