Obituary

FITCHBURG - Matthew Floyd Tower, age 57, of Fitchburg, passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2025. He was born December 10, 1968, in Marshalltown, the beloved son of Michael Tower and Evangeline Hansen and cherished older brother to Beth Marshall.

Matt married the love of his life, Kris, on January 4, 1997. Together they had two children, Lauren and Zach. Matt was a kind, patient, and devoted husband and father. He took his family role very seriously, ensuring everyone was always taken care of.

Matt found happiness in building a beautiful life with his family and creating many memories. He had boundless enthusiasm for fixing things, whether it be a car, motorcycle, or household challenge. Matt’s life was shaped by his dedication to his family and his goofy spirit that he shared with those closest to him. He always brightened the lives of family and friends with his endless jokes.

No words are big enough to describe Matt. He was the best husband, father, role model, friend, mentor, and supporter. Matt’s zest for life touched everyone who knew him. His family and friends will remember him by his love, strong spirit, and sense of humor.  Matt was an all around talent that was taken too soon.  Matt’s greatest joys came from devoting time to his family, working in his “shop” on his many projects, and having Maria's Pizza on a Friday night. We will forever miss his light, laughter, and love.

He is survived by his loving wife Kris; his children, Lauren (Jack), and Zach; parents, Mike (Diane) Tower and Vangie Hansen; sister Beth Marshall; brother-in-law Bob (Angie) Beffa; nephew and niece Sam and Noelle; Uncle Walter (Linda) Floyd; dear friends Bob and Kris Ceder; cousins, and many close friends and relatives who meant so much to him. Matt is welcomed to eternity by his grandparents Windell and Grace Floyd, Uncle David (Jan) Floyd, and in-laws Bob and Sharon Beffa.

Matt gave the gift of life by choosing to be an organ donor, an act demonstrating how fiercely he loved life and cared for others. Matt’s legacy will live on in the lives that he touched.

No words can summarize how exceptional and meaningful he was to his family and to anyone who met him. We will forever miss him and know his profound spirit will live on.

A private celebration of life service will be held for his family. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to create a future memorial in Matt’s name.

Matt was a very kind and helpful Brother-in-law. He was always there for me when I needed advice. He would mentor me throughout my career and I owe him gratitude for where I have gotten today. Matt loved Christmas movies and when we got together, he would always drop a great quote from Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, or Elf. He was a hard worker and a perfectionist with all he did. I looked up to Matt for these reasons. I miss him dearly and will continue to miss him. I hope you are at peace Matt. Love you Bro.
