Richard L. “Dick” Roeder, age 92, passed away on October 20, 2025, at Oakwood Village in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on January 14, 1933, to Lawrence Hanstad and Henrietta Klein in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and later adopted by Henrietta’s second husband, Harold Roeder of Appleton, Wisconsin.
Dick attended Appleton High School, where he was voted to the all-state football team in his senior year. He then served 2 years in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia. Upon returning home, Dick went on to earn a degree at UW-Madison in Industrial Engineering, married Therese “Terri” Manderfield, and had 4 children. He was employed as a Superintendent of Materials Handling by Kimberly Clark in Appleton, until he resigned to start his own manufacturing business, FOF Products in Delavan, Wisconsin in 1978.
Dick had a lifelong passion for sailing and participated in races with his M20 and Flying Scot sailboats. He enjoyed playing games with his kids when they were young, especially chess. Dick was a big TV watcher and was fond of The Beverly Hillbillies and Get Smart. In his later years, he loved watching the show Everybody Loves Raymond.
He was also involved in the ABC (A Better Chance) program in Appleton, serving as president, and, with his family, became a sponsor for underprivileged youth from larger cities.
Dick is survived by his devoted companion of 15 years, Nora Oelerich, Madison, WI, his ex-wife, Terri (Manderfield) Roeder, Menasha, WI, son, Mark, Madison, WI, daughter, Leslie, New York, NY, grandchildren, Lars, Laramie, Wyoming, Trygve, Sun Prairie, WI, Olive Earley, New Orleans, LA, and Dexter Earley, Madison, WI, son-in-law, Kevin Earley, Madison, WI, and his stepsister, Sandy Schmidt, Madison, WI.

Dick was an easy-going, good-natured man who took his work seriously. Even through his years of living with Alzheimer’s Disease, he remained upbeat and continued to feel a need to “get to work” right up until the end.
A private burial will take place at Natural Path Sanctuary in Verona, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Alzheimer’s research.
