Obituary
Raymond Teml, age 84, passed away on November 5, 2025, in Verona, Wisconsin.
Born on May 7, 1941, in Berwyn, Illinois, Ray graduated from Antioch High School in 1959. Ray married his high school sweetheart Sandy (nee Mayer) in 1961. Daughters Deb, Cindy, and Barb came along soon after. Ray took great pride in his 55-year marriage and in watching his daughters - and later, his sons-in-law and his grandchildren - grow and flourish.
To his friends and family, Ray was known for his sense of humor. His quick wit and laughter was bound to brighten the mood at any social or family gathering. Even the most mundane activities were a little more fun with Ray around. On road trips to Door County with his family, Ray would crack jokes along the way, shouting, “Hey!” whenever he would see a bale of hay in a nearby field.
A passionate and long-suffering Chicago sports fan, Ray enjoyed cheering for the Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks. He rabidly followed just about any sport he could watch or read about, whether high school, college, or professional. His enthusiasm for the game was matched only by his love of playing cards—he found great joy in playing cribbage, poker, sheepshead, and euchre with friends and family.
Ray built a career in the grocery industry, which took him and Sandy to the Quad Cities, Omaha, Nebraska, Lexington, Kentucky, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Ray and Sandy returned to Wisconsin for good in 1996 to be able to spend time with their grandchildren - Hannah, Mitch, and Trey - who they cherished.
Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandy, his parents, Raymond and Bernice Teml, and his sister Darlene Irwin. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Deborah (Jim) Ader, Cynthia (Jim) Shumway, and Barbara (Mark) Ryan, his sister Patricia Dressel, and his grandchildren Hannah Shumway, Mitchell Ryan, and Trey Ryan.
A private ceremony will be held at Natural Path Sanctuary, located at the Farley Center in Verona, WI. Memorials may be made to the Farley Center (Linda and Gene Farley Center for Peace, Justice and Sustainability), 2299 Spring Rose Rd., Verona, WI 53593.
