Jay Weigen
April 17, 1958 - November 07, 2025
Obituary
Jay Alan Weigen, age 67, passed away on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 17, 1958, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Thomas and Janice (Rortvedt) Weigen, and grew up in Sun Prairie. For the past 33 years, Jay made his home on the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward—a place that perfectly reflected his lifelong love of the outdoors.
An impressive outdoorsman, Jay embraced everything nature had to offer—from hunting, fishing, golfing, and snowmobiling to racing four-wheelers in his younger years. He was the first-ever winner of the annual Chippewa Flowage Musky Hunt and a repeat champion in horseshoes. Each spring, you could find Jay in the woods making maple syrup—a labor of love that became a favorite tradition.
Jay was known as someone who could “do it all.” Whether building, fixing, or creating, his craftsmanship and attention to detail shone through in everything he did.
Above all, Jay loved spending time with his family, friends, and his chocolate labs. His humor, generosity, and wisdom touched everyone who knew him.
Jay is survived by his mother, Janice; brothers, Jeffrey (Jody) and Todd; nephews, Neil (Jillian) and Eric (Jamie); and great-nieces, Lilly and Willow. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; maternal grandparents, Ted and Alice Rortvedt; paternal grandparents, James and Agnes Weigen; uncles, Charles (Joan) Rortvedt, Cecil Boyd, Conway (Pat) Lenz, Jim Weigen Jr., Charles (Carroll) Weigen; and cousins, Donald Rortvedt and Steve Lenz.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Agrace Hospice for their compassionate care, and an extra-special thank-you to his brother, Todd Weigen, for his devoted care during Jay’s final months.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Hooker’s Resort, W9370 Co Rd V, Poynette, WI 53955. An additional celebration of life will take place at Johnson’s Resort in Hayward in the spring (date to be determined).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hayward Community Food Shelf.
Jay will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His spirit will live on in the woods, waters, and hearts of those he leaves behind.
