Obituary
Waunakee- Ronald "Ron" Merl Christianson
With full hearts and many cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Ronald Merl Christianson, who was born on April 8, 1942, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, to Oscar and Geraldine (Martin) Christianson, and who was born to eternal life on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Ron graduated from Spring Green High School in 1960 and went on to build a long and dedicated career with Oscar Mayer Kraft Foods, retiring after 31 years of hard work, friendship, and more than a few laughs along the way. In 1967, Ron married the love of his life, Fern (Kearney), beginning a partnership filled with devotion, adventure, and 58 wonderful years together. In 1984, Ron and Fern made their home in Waunakee, where they became part of a community they loved. As longtime members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, their faith and friendships were constant threads in their life together.
Since 1977, Ron found joy, peace, and plenty of fun at their beloved second home on Castle Rock Lake where he was happy casting a line, boating or just enjoying family and friends. A member of the WISM Riders Snowmobile Club along with hunting and bowling with friends, Ron embraced life with an easy smile and a hearty laugh. He loved to travel—near or far, with family or longtime friends—and he never missed a chance to enjoy good company.
One of Ron’s greatest joys was cheering on his granddaughter, Makenzie. Watching her pitch in softball brought him endless pride, excitement, and bragging rights. He also shared a special bond with his grand-dog, Mazie, who decided early on that Ron was unquestionably her person.
A loyal fan, Ron loved all Wisconsin sports, following his teams with the same optimism and enthusiasm he brought to every part of life.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Fern; his son Todd (Amy); and his treasured granddaughter Makenzie. He is also survived by his sisters Sharon Weitzel and Marsha Grant; sisters-in-law Wanda Anderson and Margaret Kearney; and many nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Gerry; his brothers-in-law Jim Weitzel, Chuck Grant, Jim Schauf, Merle Rossing, and Tim Kearney; and his sister-in-law Shirley Rossing.
Ron lived a life filled with laughter, love, and adventure—a life shared generously with family, friends, and anyone lucky enough to spend time with him. His legacy lives on in the stories told, the traditions kept, and the joy he brought to so many.
He will be deeply missed and remembered always.
