Obituary

Robert “Bob” Buechner, age 83, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 1, 1942, to George and Rosalia Buechner, Bob was the eldest of nine children and proudly carried the responsibilities—and joys—of being a big brother throughout his life.

Growing up on the family farm shaped who Bob became. By the age of three he was already perched on a tractor seat, learning the value of hard work and the satisfaction of a job well done. He spent his youth outdoors, developing a lifelong love for deer and squirrel hunting, fishing, and mastering the chainsaw. Some of his fondest memories were of cutting wood alongside his father and his boys, a tradition that strengthened their bond and remained close to his heart.

In 1967, Bob married the love of his life, Marlys. Their marriage was a partnership built on devotion, humor, and deep affection. Together, they raised three sons—Mark, Michael, and Todd—who were the pride of his life. As the family grew, Bob delighted in becoming a grandfather, and his eight grandchildren brought him immense joy and purpose.

Bob found peace and pleasure in the simple things: a well-tended garden, weekends spent camping, a cold beer enjoyed with good company, Paisans pizza, and a classic Wisconsin fish fry. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his work-worn hands, and kind and gentle heart.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the quiet strength that defined him. Bob will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marlys; children, Mark (Teresa) Buechner, Michael (Laura) Buechner and Todd Buechner; grandchildren, Emily, Max, Callie, Leo, Eric, Alyssa, Brianna and Colton; siblings, John (Diane) Buechner, Janet (Milan) Warren, Louise (Jim) Gregie, Virginia Boehlke, Jimmy (Chris) Buechner, Dave (Betsy) Buechner and Paul (Tami) Buechner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Helen Buechner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N Sherman Ave, Madison. A visitation will take place at the church from 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will take place at St. Martins of Tours Cemetery in Martinsville, WI. I've know Bob since the mid 60's when I was a classmate of his wife, Marly, at St Mary's Nursing school. He had a great smily and sense of humor and I'm sure will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Bob was our next door neighbor growing up. He and my dad were good buddies who enjoyed competitive gardening and sharing beers at our picnic table! So sad to hear of your loss. Sarah (Nelson) Howells
