Jan Hermes

Lake Mills, WI — Jan Hermes, age 73, passed away on December 1, 2025, at Hattie’s Glen Assisted Living (formerly BrightStar) in Madison. She was born on October 24, 1952, in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred Hermes and Jane Crossman.

Jan graduated from Horlick High School and was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Jefferson. She raised her two children in Chanhassen, Minnesota, where she also worked as a paraprofessional. An animal lover throughout her life, Jan adored her house cats, cow, and other animals on the farm where she lived.

Jan is survived by her children, Benjamin (Stephanie) Chatmas of Shakopee, MN, and Emily (Nick) Danger of Longmont, CO and new grandson expected in March; her brother Freddy (Nancy) Hermes; her stepmother Veryl Hermes; her cousin and close friend Colleen Levake; and many loving extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Jane.

Jan will be laid to rest at Rock Lake Cemetery in Lake Mills, WI. A reception for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9 at Calvary Baptist Church in Jefferson, WI.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Jefferson County, a cause close to Jan's heart.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors at UW–Madison, the staff at Hattie’s Glen, and the hospice team at Agrace for their compassionate care.
