Obituary
Richard Allen Hughes, 72, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025 at home surrounded by his family.
Richard, the son of John and Florence (Burmeister) Hughes, was born on March 24, 1953 in Madison, WI. He grew up in Madison and attended Madison East High School. Richard followed his father's career path as a Cement Mason and was a part of the Operative Plasters and Cement Mason’s Local 204. Richard met his wife, Peggy, on a tubing trip at the Apple River. Richard and Peggy were married December 4, 1982 in DeForest, WI. Together they raised their two children, Tanner and Heidi.
Richard had a passion for all things outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing and camping with his friends and family. Richard especially enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada and spending time at his son’s cabin in Tripoli, WI. Richard had a vast knowledge of all things. He loved to read and learn about history, nature and especially the elusive Bigfoot.
Richard lived humbly and loved deeply. The greatest joys in his life were his grandkids. He was a funny, loving, caring and gentle Grandpa. From reading books, singing, making forts and hanging rope swings in the front yard, he enjoyed every minute he spent with his grandkids. Richard enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren’s activities. He was so proud of every goal they scored, fish they caught and basket they made.
Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy (Camren), his son, Tanner Hughes (Natalie), and his daughter, Heidi (Nathan) Roberts; his grandchildren: Ava Hughes, Ella Hughes, Waylon Hughes, Emma Roberts, Brody Roberts and Bella Roberts; and his granddogs: Khloe and Scout. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Vicky (Terry) Wenger and brother Charles Hughes along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents John and Florence Hughes, sister Jacqueline Hughes, nephews Jason Hughes and Jesse Wenger, mother and father-in-law Wayne and Roxanne Camren, brother-in-law Russell Moede and a special aunt, Florence Camren.
A heartfelt thank you to the Agrace Hospice Homecare staff for the compassion and exceptional care they provided Richard and his family.
