Obituary

Jeanne Nugent Robaidek loved the Catholic church, World War II history, her family, and chocolate (not in that order). She lived 99 years, the last 30 independently in her Oregon, WI, home, despite being legally blind. She existed happily without a cell phone, computer, or driver’s license. Her grandmotherly advice for living well over a long life? Walk every day! Jeanne died with family at her side on December 27, 2025, in Stoughton, WI, after a short illness.

Born in Grand Mound, IA, on December 2, 1926, Jeanne was the daughter of Michael J. Nugent and Margaret Megee Nugent. She attended schools in Grand Mound and Davenport, IA, and then the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. As a history and P.E. teacher in Rockford, IL, she continued her education in the summers at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She and Eugene S. Robaidek met there on a double date, when they preferred each other to their original partners. They married on August 22, 1953, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Davenport and spent 43 eventful years together, until his passing.

Jeanne is survived by five sons who were born across seven years: Mark (Carolyn Lee), David (Debra), Christopher (Irene), John, and Paul (Elizabeth Holleman). Her grandchildren include Carly (Dustin) Berenz, Ingrid (Dan) Degginger, Weston (Natalie Ergas), Joseph, Anna Sabin (Andrew), Noelle (Niko) Deffigos, Ben (Akarsha Gulukota), and Julia. She also leaves behind brother-in-law Robert Jankowski, sister-in-law Nancy Robaidek, many nieces and nephews, and three great-grandchildren. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and six sisters.

Jeanne belonged to the Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic parish in Oregon, and before that to Blessed Sacrament Parish in Madison. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on January 13, 2026, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Madison. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament parish, Holy Mother of Consolation parish in Oregon, or Edgewood High School in Madison.
