Carol "CK" Spencer

Carol Kay “CK” Spencer finished her race on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was 85 years old. 

CK was born in La Grange, Wisconsin on December 1, 1940, to Lester and Rosemary (Cornelius) Smith, all members of the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin. CK married Leo James Spencer, on December 5, 1960, together for 17 years, raising five beautiful children.  

CK was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on September 9, 1973, in Platteville, Wisconsin. She spent 23 years faithfully serving as a full-time minister teaching many about the Bible. It was her life’s passion. 

CK worked professionally as a bank teller and in the City of Madison Assessor’s office until she retired in 2005.

CK was an athlete. She enjoyed tennis, basketball, downhill and cross country skiing, and swimming. She loved to sew, making clothes for herself, family, and friends. She enjoyed traveling, music, singing and dancing, creative writing, good food, and socializing with friends. 

She is survived by her five children: Paige Spencer, Brooke Spencer, Shea Spencer (Michael), James-Ira (Melissa) Spencer, and Joseph (Liz) Spencer; seven grandchildren: Spencer Perieff, Sage (Timmy) Hawkins, Ryleigh (Raul), Alivia (Juan), Lily (Darren), Celia, (Hunter) and Leo Spencer; two great grandchildren: Hudson Perieff & Harlow Hawkins; her dear sister Susan Couture, nephews Rolo and Shannon Couture, and niece Ashley Couture.  Also, niece Kelly Smith, nephews Jamie Smith & Steve Smith.

CK is preceded in death by her father and mother Lester and Rosemary Smith, husband Leo James Spencer, her brother Darrel Smith, nephew Christopher Couture, niece Stacy (Petote) Smith and brother-in-law Roland Couture.

CK will be dearly missed for her joy, humor, hospitality and generosity, endurance and tenacity. She gave it her all and never gave up…Game. Set. Match. 

Romans 14:8, “For if we live, we live to Jehovah, and if we die, we die to Jehovah. So both if we live and if we die, we belong to Jehovah.”

A memorial for CK will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at 542 N. Pleasant View Rd, Middleton, Wisconsin. A visitation will be held 1-2pm and the funeral service will begin at 2pm.
