Obituary
VERONA/APPLETON – Virginia M. Nohr, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Ginny was born on October 4, 1929, in Oshkosh, WI to Richard and Agnes (Frost) Zarter. Ginny met a handsome, Appleton boy while roller skating named Eugene Hoppe. They married on December 3, 1948, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton. They and their three children enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the Oconto River near Mountain, WI. In 1986, Gene, her first love passed away.
Later she would marry Gene’s childhood friend, Lester Nohr. Les and Ginny spent several years traveling together. They built a home on Legend Lake where they enjoyed lakeside activities with family and many friends. The blended family of children and grandchildren spent countless hours at the lake enjoying summer and winter activities. Ginny unexpectedly lost another love in 1992. She later met her companion of many years, Herb Kopitzke. Ginny and Herb spent many years as snowbirds in Florida where they enjoyed a community of friends and golfing while in Wisconsin during warm weather months.
Ginny eventually made her home at EVIA Apartments in Verona near her daughter and family. She was known as one of the apartment buildings “organizers” and enjoyed her weekly coffee sessions. She enjoyed playing bingo with the building residents where sharing life stories and memories was as important as the shouting of bingo.
Ginny is survived by her son, Steve Hoppe; daughter, Ellen (Glen) Hefty; daughter-in-law, Deb Hoppe; grandchildren, Tonya (Todd), Daniel, Shane (Robin), Julie (Kevin), and Lauren (Mike); and great grandchildren, Kierstin, McKenna, Logan, Blake, Autumn, Teagan, and Norah. Ginny was fondly known as “Gigi” to her great grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Ginny is preceded in death by her husbands; son, Dan Hoppe; grandson, David Hoppe; siblings, Richard, Agnes, Ruth, Mary Jane, Gerald, and Eleanor; and her good friend, Herb Kopitzke.
A family service will be held at the cemetery at a later date.
