Obituary

Amos Robert (Bob) Harms, age 82, passed away due to heart failure, on March 19, 2026 at UW Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Amos Sr. and Charlotte (Lischeske) Harms on December 19, 1943 in Milwaukee, WI. Bob graduated from Madison Central High School in 1963. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps from 1964-1967, obtaining the rank of Corporal, and serving two tours in Vietnam volunteering as a Helicopter Door Gunner. He went on to work for Wisconsin Bell as a telephone technician, retiring in 2010 after 43 years with the company.

Bob married the love of his life, Karen (Davenport) Harms in 1978 and they created a beautiful life together. Over the years they enjoyed camping, motorcycle trips to Sturgis, SD and Canada, boating, trips to EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association), and raising their girls. They were always together and were lucky enough to be the very best of friends throughout their 48 years of marriage.

Bob lived life to the fullest and was a man of many talents. He had a quest to learn and mastered everything he took an interest in including juggling, becoming a professional couples roller skater, restoring an old Ford Model T car, scuba diving, playing chess, sail boating, playing pool with his 'brothers', building and flying ultralight airplanes, and so much more. He enjoyed attending car shows and had a lifelong love of motorcycles; building/fabricating 'choppers', and being one of the original founders of the Capital City Riders Motorcycle Club where he considered his fellow riders to be his brothers. Bob remained an active charter member of the club until his passing. Summers were for riding and if it was a nice sunny day, you could bet Bob was out on the open road with his Harley.

Bob was an amazing man and had many accomplishments in his life, but he was most proud of his wife and daughters who brought him so much joy and meant the world to him. To know Bob was to love him as he was so positive and full of life, incredibly easy going, always laughing, a friend to everyone, and always ready and willing to help anyone in need.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Karen; daughters Vicki (Dusty), Kari, Kristi (Johnny), and Kelly (Rod); brothers in law John (Karie) Davenport, Kelly Baryenbruch and Jim Deppeler; sister in law Sandra (Tom) Mork; and many special nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He is also survived by many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Deppeler, and sister in law Diane Baryenbruch.

The family would like to thank the staff in the Cardiology ICU at UW Hospital for their wonderful care in Bob's final days and for the compassion they showed the family during this most difficult time.
