Jay Otis

Jay Charles Otis, age 62, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at UW Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1963, to David and Patricia (Fisher) Otis in Madison, WI. Jay graduated from La Follette High School, Madison WI in 1982.

Jay lived life with courage. He held many different jobs over the years, including bug removal in the South—crawling under homes—working as a limo driver, and bartending. He also had a special knack for woodworking. Jay was most proud of his time in Spain, where he went to school to become a scuba diving instructor. He had a deep passion for traveling and exploring the world.

Jay loved being outdoors, whether it was swimming, camping, target shooting, relaxing on the beach with friends, or even solo parachuting. He enjoyed staying active and making the most of every day. Jay was an animal lover, especially when it came to cats. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of life, and the joy he found in both big and small moments, even as he faced ongoing health issues over the years.

Jay is survived by his mother, Pat; brother, Wade (Donovan Marshall) Otis; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his dad, David.

A Celebration of Jay's Life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, WI. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service.
