Joanne D. “Jo” Schlimgen, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg. She was born on December 24, 1934, in Madison, the daughter of Elliott and Mabel (Davenport) Oscar.
Jo graduated from Madison West High School and went on to attend college in Whitewater. She was united in marriage to Gilbert W. “Gil” Schlimgen on August 25, 1956, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Madison. Jo’s greatest joy was from raising her family. Her love, support and guidance meant everything to her children and grandchildren.
Jo was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she volunteered in various ways, from working in the office to serving funeral lunches. Her favorite hobbies were bowling and crafting. She was known for her fantastic holiday crafts. She and Gil enjoyed family vacations in northern Wisconsin, camping in their motor home and winters in Arizona.
Jo is survived by her children: Nancy (Ken) Moore, Dede (Bonnie Beckwith) Schlimgen, Kathy (Bill) Brink, and Paul (Amy) Schlimgen; grandchildren, Dan (Melissa) Moore, Tricia Moore, Preston (Ashlee) Brink, Spencer Brink, and Grant, Drew and Alia Schlimgen; great-grandchildren, Logan and Kimberly Brink; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gil; her parents; her son, Michael; and siblings, Donald (Noreen) Oscar, Richard (Millie) Oscar and Janet (Milton) Hemling.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison with Msgr. Duane Moellenberndt officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. Private burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ronald McDonald House in Madison or to Catholic Charities of Madison.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Agrace Hospice as well as the caring staff at All Saints.
